Instructors

Meet the three instructors that will have you sewing fun travel and tropical themed projects! We’ll learn lots, have loads of fun, make lasting memories, meet new friends, and come away with at least a couple finished projects. Sounds like a win-win to me!

Latifah Saafir

Latifah Saafir, is known for her bold and innovative modern quilts. Combining her training as an engineer with her lifelong passion for sewing, Latifah creates designs that are graphic and contemporary, featuring challenging techniques with meticulous attention to detail. A co-founder of both the Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild and the worldwide Modern Quilt Guild, Latifah currently teaches workshops to guilds around the world. She has a line of patterns and templates that she has designed to use her favorite techniques. She is excited to be designing her second line of fabrics to be released with Me + You, the new modern fabric brand with Hoffman Fabrics. She’s been featured in over a dozen books and magazines and loves being an ambassador of Janome sewing machines.

Danielle Wilkes

If you’ve ever taken a class with Danielle, you know one thing is certain, you’ll have fun and laugh!  Aside from the entertainment, you’ll also get a chance to do some embroidery projects.  We will make zipper pouches, luggage tags, and more.  The machines we are using embroider AND sew, so we will use both features, but mostly embroidery.  If this is your introduction into the world of machine embroidery, buckle up, baby, because this is addictive.

Erin Schlosser

Erin was born to be a teacher with her calm approach, positive attitude, and smiles.  She is best known for making any technique, no matter the difficulty, easy peasy! She LOVES to teach, and she has a real knack for helping people fall in love with sewing! If you get nervous about a project, trust me, Erin is your girl to walk you through it like a seasoned professional. Look forward to making a fun beachy project with Erin!

What about a sewing machine?

Best part? You don’t have to bring your machine! Mark with Sew Vac City will be providing the best Janome machines for us to sew on! This leaves more room in your luggage for clothes or souvenirs!

We’ll be sailing on Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas, one of Erin’s favorite ships! On our three sea days we’ll be busy sewing and having fun. In the evenings sit down to a nice dinner or something casual, then catch one of the many complimentary evening shows on board. Need a break during the day? There’s free ice cream cones up by the pool, miniature golf, or even try rock climbing or surfing!

For a wonderful relax, head to one of the many pools or whirlpools on board, a couple of which are adults only!

Don’t forget to try the olive tapenade at the Windjammer, it’s a favorite!

Roatan

The Bay Islands, just north of the Caribbean coast of Honduras, have a long and colorful history. The earliest Indian inhabitants are thought to have traded with the Maya of Yucatan. Roatan is the largest of the islands with small towns and fishing villages built along the waters edge. Snorkeling and diving is at its best here. You´ll find beautiful palm-fringed beaches and miles of off-shore coral reef inhabited by brilliantly colored fish and multicolored gardens of aquatic plants.

Attractions & Activities

There are fine restaurants, bars and attractions, such as Butterfly Park, Marble Hill Farms, the Iguana Farm and Carambola Gardens. But best of all, make sure to spend time exploring some of the most pure and untouched beaches in the Caribbean. It’s all there for you to enjoy – at your own leisurely pace, of course.

  • Wander through Carambola Botanical Gardens in Sandy Bay and take in the sights and scents surrounding you.
  • Enjoy the beauty and serenity of powder-white sand beaches and crystal-turquoise water.

Costa Maya

Beginning where the Mayan Riviera ends, the Costa Maya stretches along the coastline up to Belize. The Costa Maya is the last remaining section of coastal properties yet to be exploited and there are acres of coastal land with absolutely no development. The odd fishing village spots the landscape but not much beyond that. Flying along the coastline you encounter numerous cenotes and you can still see the outlines and impressions of villages that were there centuries ago.

Attractions & Activities

Experience the ancient Mayan City of Chacchoben. Largely unexplored until 1999, this Mayan site dates back to 360 A.D. when it played an important role in the distribution of such precious items as wood, jade and exotic birds.

  • Check out the Mayan Pavilion Park, which has everything: Mayan handicraft centers, swim-up bars, great traditional restaurants, saltwater pools, a 650-seat amphitheater, Mayan art and architecture, amazing water sports and great shopping. For more adventures, explore the many surrounding Mayan cities like Chinchorro, Chacchoben, Bacalar, Chetumal and more.
  • Take a break, relax and soak up the famous Mayan sun at Uvero Beach, complete with beach chairs, bar, restaurant, paddle boats, snorkeling and so much more.
  • Take an exciting Unimog excursion right through the heart of the jungle.

Cozumel

The crystal clear water surrounding Cozumel makes it a favorite for divers and sun-seekers from around the world. Found on the Yucatan peninsula, it is the largest of Mexico’s islands and steeped in history, tracing Mayan descendants from 300 A.D. In town, there is shopping for local crafts and dining in colorful restaurants.

Attractions & Activities

Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tulúm, majestically perched above the turquoise Caribbean. The site was occupied as far back as 600 A.D. However, it was most densely populated around 1200 A.D. You will be struck by the pyramid-shaped El Castillo, which dominates the city from atop a forty-foot cliff. The nearby Temple of the Descending God provides equally excellent insight into the architecture of the Mayan people, who gained considerable achievements in the arts and sciences, only to decline and vanish for no apparent reason.

  • Explore the underwater world of Chankanaab on a deep-sea adventure aboard the Atlantis Submarine.
  • Discover what makes a dolphin so magical as you play and interact with these amazing creatures in Chankanaab National Marine Park.
  • Sit back, relax, and bury your toes in the white sand of Playa del Sol beach in Cozumel. This destination offers all the food, drinks and activities you can imagine, including relaxing massages on the beach.
  • Take a Jeep-safari adventure through the tropical landscape of Cozumel’s east side. Ride through sand dunes and trails for an unforgettable experience.
  • Join the Fiesta party boat for a fun-filled trip to Playa del Sol, with margaritas, rum punch and a live band setting the mood for fun.
  • Helmet dive in Chankanaab and trek around coral reefs to see the abundant marine life up close.
  • Escape to the secluded beauty of your own private beach paradise, Passion Island, by a four-person canoe or motorized tender
